Minor Resolved

Elevated latency to South America from REY

Network — transit & peering — REY

Timeline

  1. Resolved

Latency to South America is back to its usual level. Duration: 56 minutes. Throughput was not affected; only the round trip on that path was.

  2. Monitoring

The direct peering route has been re-announced. We have removed our preference and are watching latency settle.

  3. Identified

A peer on RIX has withdrawn its direct route to South America and traffic is taking a detour via Síminn. This is a routing choice on their side, not a fault on ours. We have preferred Farice for those prefixes, which brings the round trip back within 10 ms of normal.

  4. Investigating

Round-trip times from REY to South America are 47 ms above their usual level. The path goes over RIX; nothing has changed on our side. We are checking whether a peer has moved traffic onto a longer path.
